Issues of Abuse

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.

According to WAC 181-79A-200 the Issues of Abuse training requirement must meet specific standards. These standards may be met in one course or a series of courses covering the topics outlined. The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) also provides some additional details regarding this requirement.

The Issues of Abuse requirement does not need to be clock hours. This could be met through any type of classes, training, or personal education outside of an approved provider. The SafeSchools training module may meet these standards. This can be a training completed anywhere, for any length of time, from any point in time, as long is it includes the elements listed. OSPI provides a form to document this training (click here).

If you have a course you have already completed that you believe has met the standards you may edit this record in your OSPI EDS E-cert professional development history and check the Issues of Abuse check box.

If you still need a class, you may want to try the following or search in pdEnroller for a similar course and search in all areas.

SafeSchools

The SafeSchools training module “Child Abuse: Mandatory Reporting may meet all or a portion of the issues of abuse requirement.  If your district is a member of SafeSchools then this course could be free.

VESI
