Hope Squad: Empowering Students, Saving Lives
Posted on 04/11/2025

Hope Squad is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program dedicated to fostering safe, supportive school communities across northeast Washington. Student members are trained to recognize signs of mental health struggles in their peers and connect them with trusted adults — creating environments rooted in compassion and proactive care.

Implemented in middle and high schools throughout the region, Hope Squad is helping build a culture of openness, reducing stigma, and equipping students with the tools and confidence to support one another.

“Hope Squad gives students a voice and a purpose. It empowers them to look out for each other and know they’re never alone,” says Kirsten Fuchs, NEWESD 101’s Youth Cannabis and Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program Coordinator.
