Earlier this semester, Cusick High School Future Farmers of America students recently participated in a hands-on "Pasture to Plate" meat processing lab, where they learned to break down, cut, grind and vacuum package meat.
The Buffalo Boys, members of the Kalispel Tribe of Indians' Department of Agriculture and experts in animal processing, donated a buffalo and spent four hours teaching students the fundamentals of meat processing. Students learned technical skills and sustainable agricultural practices, experiencing the full farm-to-table cycle.
This collaboration, led by Agriculture teacher Aubrey Markel, aims to inspire students to explore careers in Animal Science, Meat Processing and related fields while strengthening the partnership between Cusick High School and the Kalispel Tribe.
