Champions of Care: Mountainside named Hope Squad Middle School of the Year

Congratulations to Mountainside Middle School in the Mead School District, honored as 2025 Hope Squad Middle School of the Year by NEWESD 101.
Under the guidance of advisors Kristen Swan, Ashley Fischer, and Jeff Lochhead, the Mountainside Hope Squad has transformed their school into a place of connection, safety, and student-led support. Their efforts have empowered peers to seek help, build trust, and speak up when it matters most, impacting lives in profound and lasting ways.
One powerful example: when a student reported concerns about a peer’s suicidal thoughts, a trained Hope Squad member followed their protocols and alerted a trusted adult, helping save a life. This courageous act embodies the heart of Hope Squad.
Through daily outreach and a strong commitment to mental wellness, Mountainside is creating ripple effects throughout the school community.
