Almira awardMore honors for Almira School District

Accolades continue to pour in for the Almira School District. Only a month after elementary teacher Susan Douglas was named regional teacher of the year, the district has received additional state and national honors.

The first is the 2018 State ESEA Distinguished School Award, presented to Almira Elementary School with an award of $10,000. To qualify for the annual award, a school must demonstrate exceptional student performance over three years on the Smarter Balance Assessment.

The second honor is a feature story on Almira’s acclaimed Ag STEM Day in the national John Deere publication, The Furrow. The magazine’s fall edition highlights Douglas’ hands-on teaching methods outside the classroom. In 2017, she launched an Ag STEM Day, allowing student to visit local farms and see the real-world application of science, technology, engineering and math. Click here for full story.

Congratulations, again, to Susan Douglas, Superintendent Shauna Schmerer and the outstanding staff of the Almira School District.
