Paraeducator Program

The Paraeducator program provides professional development for paraeducators and the teachers with whom they work to create effective educational teams and increase student learning. The objective of the Paraeducator program is to provide training in a variety of areas, using best practices in Professional Development, that is accessible and responsive to district, school and paraeducator needs.

NEWESD 101 provides support to paraeducators throughout our region through workshops and on-line resources. Workshops are listed on the home page under Quick Links or you can view Humanities workshops by clicking here.

Training for Core Competencies, Special Health Concerns and Para-Reading are at both the NEWESD Conference Center and at requesting district sites.


Paraeducator Services
The Paraeducator Program offers the regional introductory level training for all 14 competencies on a limited basis. Training for competencies 1-6, 7-11 & 13 are also available at for subscribing districts.

ETS ParaPro Assessment

ETS Paraprofessional Assessments can be taken at NorthEast Washington ESD 101 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The assessment consists of 90 multiple choice questions, 30 in each of the following subjects: reading, writing, and math. Individuals must score 461 or higher to pass the assessment. Tests can be scheduled with Kim Cameron at (509) 789-3547. Please allow 2.5 hours to take the test. Cost is $75.

Paraeducators Working With Students With Special Health Care Needs
NEWESD 101 provides training for paraeducators working with students with special health care needs. This is the only portion of paraeducator training which requires participants to attend in person. Completion of the training satisfies paraeducator core competencies #4, 7, 12 and 14. Cost is $60.   To register:
