Working together to make a difference for our children and community.

Policy Council is parents and community members working together with the director and staff of the NorthEast Washington Educational Service District 101 (NEWESD 101) Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) to offer input on procedures, budget, and plans that affect all ECEAP families and staff. ECEAP Parent Policy Council brochure

NEWESD 101's ECEAP has two parent policy councils. One serves the counties of Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille and the other serves the counties of Lincoln, Adams and Spokane.

What does Policy Council do?

    • Approves or disapproves procedures, hiring and firing

    • Gives input on the budget

    • Plans and implements parent activities with staff assistance

    • Communicates with other parents and encourages their participation

    • Offers a parent and family point of view

    • Decides who gets priority in being selected for enrollment

Who can serve?

  • Parents of children enrolled in ECEAP at NorthEast Washington ESD 101 sites

  • Community members approved by parents of children enrolled in ECEAP at NorthEast Washington ESD 101 sites

  • Serving on Policy Council is limited to three consecutive years of parent membership

What can I expect?

  • When you come, you'll sign in and help yourself to refreshments. A packet of handouts will be given to you. The handouts will include topics relating to kindergarten readiness, program plans that need your input, ideas to use to play with your child and support their learning, and many other topics that you help decide

  • Opportunities will be given to share news and information from your site, such as: parent involvement activities, what is going great, and what may need changing

  • You don't have to speak up unless you want to. You'll hear many different opinions - your job is to share information between Policy Council and parents at your site

  • Mileage will be reimbursed when you attend Policy Council meetings

  • Child care may also be provided, as needed
