Leading with Heart

North Central HS Receives Hope Squad of the Year Honor

NEWESD 101 is proud to recognize the North Central High School Hope Squad as this year’s Hope Squad of the Year. The award was presented by Student Support Services Coordinator Kirsten Fuchs and Director Brittany Roetcisoender in honor of the squad’s extraordinary leadership, compassion, and commitment to student mental health.

Through their Servant Leadership class, the North Central squad has consistently modeled what it means to lead with heart. These students have become trusted peer supporters and champions for change—helping their classmates see that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Their impact spans a wide range of school and community efforts. From operating the Wolfpack Threads clothing closet and NCHS Food Pantry to preparing and delivering Bites 2 Go food bags to classrooms, they ensure basic needs are met with care and dignity. The squad also led the planning and execution of ONE Pack Day, a schoolwide mental health event filled with education, peer-led discussions, and creative activities designed to promote unity and reduce stigma.

Beyond their campus, many squad members are sharing their experiences with others, encouraging friends and family to become mental health advocates themselves. Their work is laying the foundation for a more connected, supportive community.
