Year 1 Impact: Homeless Student Stability Program

Homeless Student Stability Program Strengthens Housing & Educational Stability
Posted on 09/21/2025

NEWESD 101’s Homeless Student Stability Program (HSSP), at the Next Generation Zone, completed its first year with measurable gains for youth and families experiencing homelessness across northeast Washington. By aligning schools and housing providers, the program delivered flexible, student-centered supports that reduce barriers to attendance and learning while increasing housing stability.

Impact Highlights

*68 students and 36 households enrolled

*86 critical services delivered, including transportation, essential household items, rental and move-in assistance, and temporary hotel stays

*15 households successfully maintained permanent housing

*11 move-ins directly contributed to increased housing stability

These results were made possible through strengths-based case management and close collaboration between districts and community partners.

Special thanks to Mike Glenn, Open Doors Youth Support Service Specialist, for leading this work and helping lay the foundation for long-term educational success and housing security for the students we serve.
