From August 4-5, NEWESD 101’s Talbott Event Center welcomed over 150 math educators for our second K-12 Fluency Fest.
The event brought together representatives from 18 northeast Washington school districts, one local charter school, 13 additional districts from across the state, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), and two partner ESDs.
The two-day professional learning experience focused on building mathematical fluency—flexibility, efficiency, and accuracy in math problem-solving, recognized as a critical equity issue in K–12 education.
Renowned author and mathematics education expert Dr. Jennifer Bay-Williams served as the keynote presenter, sharing strategies to elevate fluency instruction and strengthen intervention and extension practices.
Special thanks to NEWESD 101 Regional Mathematics Coordinator Debra Kowalkowski for her leadership in organizing and facilitating this engaging event.
