SCIENCE KIT COOPERATIVE

kits

NEWSRC’s Science Kit Cooperative started in 2006 as part of a LASER initiative with 6 schools. We have grown since then, expanding our offerings and providing support.
  • Alignment and standards: All main kits are aligned to NGSS standards.
    • Building Blocks of Science (Pre-K-5)
    • Smithsonian STC-MS (6-8)
    • OpenSciEd (OSE) (K-HS)
    • Engineering is Elementary (1-8)

  • Flexible "menu" approach to kit titles/curricula and customized add-ons beyond traditional kits.
    • Online digital resources
    • Extension kits to use during the refurbishment period to limit down-time of science instruction. The lessons in the extension kits follow the theme of the parent kit.
    • Option to purchase Spanish-language printed materials and handouts for ELL students.
    • Option to purchase student handouts packets so teachers don't have to take the time to make copies of the worksheets.

  • Through our shared ownership and rotation model, districts share ownership and kits are rotated each trimester. This approach promotes equity, reduces costs, and ensures all students have access to high-quality science learning.

  • Our kits are truly teacher-ready. All materials are prepped - cut, weighed, measured, and organized - then pre-packaged by lesson. To make it even easier, we also include many of the teacher-supplied items, reducing the burden of gathering extra materials.

  • After each use, our team refurbishes the kits by refilling consumables and repairing or replacing broken items. This ensures materials remain in top condition and ready for the next classroom.

  • Our service is designed for convenience. We manage rotation and delivery schedules, handle all refurbishment and maintenance of materials, and provide ready-to-use kits so educators can focus their energy on teaching rather than logistics.

  • We prioritize quality and alignment with standards. All of our kits are built around NGSS and use curricula adopted by many states. Each  kit also includes digital, spatial, and linguistic supports to ensure that every student has access to meaning, hands-on learning.

  • Kits are delivered directly to your schools and, at the end of the scheduled trimester, are picked up for refurbishment. This seamless cycle keeps materials classroom-ready without adding extra work for teachers.

  • For schools currently using Mystery Science as a support for elementary science learning, we also assemble supply packs for the NGSS-themed K-5 titles. Ordering through us can save your district up to $800 per grade band while ensuring your teachers have everything they need for hands-on learning. Contact us for more detailed information.

Each kit has enough permanent and consumable supplies for 1 classroom. Elementary kits (K-2) are designed to accommodate up to 24 students, while kits for upper elementary (3-5) are designed to accommodate up to 30 students.

Middle school kits (6-8) are designed to accommodate up to 32 students. For middle schools who use the STC-MS kits, teachers who teach multiple sections of the same class can order class sets of consumables to use with the shared permanent items.
