K-12 High School Classes
Business Basics
"Business Basics" is a 12-session course geared to the
exploration of the world of entrepreneurship.
Participants will employ critical thinking skills and
practice applying these skills to the development of a
business plan. This course offers a comprehensive look
at entrepreneurship and will convey the tremendous
responsibilities business owners face, giving them a
better understanding of what employers experience. |
Business Basics - Spanish version
This course covers the same material as its English
counterpart, but is taught in Spanish. |
Everyday Math I
A theme-based, problem-solving approach to math is used
through examples of budgeting, taking measurements,
working with percents, basic geometry, and other basic
math elements. |
Everyday Math II
In Everyday Math II, the focus is on math skills and how
they apply to our everyday lives. Students look at
common everyday activities that require good math skills
and learn useful math tricks that can greatly simplify
intimidating math problems. |
Five Secrets to Finding a Job
This course is designed for the learner who is preparing
to enter the workforce. It covers topics such as job
search techniques, networking, researching companies,
writing resumes, and job interviewing. In addition,
students will participate in a number of activities,
including a skills inventory and interviewing practice
to better assist them in selecting an appropriate
career. |
GED Math
This course is designed for learners preparing to take
the GED Math test. The four major areas that are now
tested on the new GED Math test are: Number Operations
and Number Sense; Measurement and Geometry; Data
Analysis, Statistics and Probability; Algebra, Functions
and Patterns. In addition to the content revisions,
students are now able to use a calculator on part of the
test, so specific instruction on calculator usage is
addressed throughout this course. |
GED Reading
This course, designed for the student who is preparing
to take the GED Language Arts Reading test, addresses
critical thinking skills, such as literal understanding,
inferential understanding, and analyzing style and
structure. |
GED Science
This course is designed to provide participants with
background in the skill areas covered on the GED Science
test. The lessons focus on current issues to which the
science skill areas apply. Subject areas include topics
in earth, space, life and physical sciences; plant and
animal biology, chemistry and physics. Themes develop a
variety of issues including the environment, nature vs.
nurture, the Rain Forest, El Nino (weather and climate)
and the effects of space on the human body. The course
emphasizes interpretation of information from graphs,
charts, diagrams or illustrations, answering
multiple-choice questions based on reading selections of
up to 400 words and application of critical thinking
skills. |
GED Social Studies
This course is designed to provide participants with
background in the skill areas covered on the GED Social
Studies test. The subject areas covered in these lessons
are: U.S. history and world history, geography, civics
and government, and economics. The support material for
this course includes: focus for daily lesson, worksheets
and answer keys for each lesson, and suggested
supplemental activities. The instructor seeks to develop
skills that will also assist students as they prepare
for other parts of the GED test. Some of these skills
include summarizing the main idea, restating informaiton,
applying, analyzing and evaluating information. Practice
in class includes the use of information from charts,
graphs, maps, political cartoons, practical documents,
government documents, photographs and sample GED style
questions. |
GED Writing
This course provides participants with instruction and
practice in the skill areas of English grammar and
usage, sentence and paragraph structure, editing,
punctuation, organization, vocabulary, and the
development of a basic, five paragraph essay. |
Get the Buzz on Biz
This fast-paced, 3-part series promises to increase
awareness of business ownership as a viable career
option. Some topics include: what it takes to be an
entrepreneur, the importance of marketing, and rules and
regulations of business ownership. |
Just the Basics, Writing
This course is designed to provide participants with
"entry level" composition instruction. Instruction
focuses on nouns and verbs; modifiers; pronouns and
possessives; sentence structure; punctuation; topic
sentences; paragraph writing; 5-paragraph format; and
editing and proofreading. |
Know Thyself
This three-part series focuses on teaching the future
workforce the importance of connecting their lives and
their interests with possible career choices. Increase
self-awareness and broaden your field of career options
in this fast-paced, fun-filled series. |
Postcards
Postcards is a fast paced, fact-filled program that
takes students on a virtual field trip across America.
Along the way, students visit historical places and meet
many of the people who have played an important role in
the history of the United States. Postcards itinerary
includes places such as Independence Hall, the White
House, Mount Rushmore and Fort McHenry, just to name a
few. Postcards is an opportunity to both see and learn
about the rich and unique history that is the United
States. Postcards consists of 12, 30-minute lessons. |
Ticket to the Future
This 4-part series, designed for the learner preparing
to enter the workforce, focuses on learning how to
effectively seek, research, apply and interview for a
job in a career field of choice. |
What It Takes to Pass the GED
These programs provide an overview of content and format
for GED tests in Math, Reading and Science, with
examples and practice questions. The instructors address
test taking skills and strategies, as well as content
areas. This brief outline of essential elements for
success on the GED test also recommends additional
resources for information. |
