  • Eighty-two join National Board ranks
    CV Eighty-two teachers in the NEWESD 101 region are in the new class of educators receiving National Board Certification, one of the most elite achievements in the teaching profession. 

    The new class includes Amanda Miller, far right in photo, a teacher at Broadway Elementary in the Central Valley School District. She is pictured with Broadway Principal Lori Johnson at a February 25 reception honoring the new inductees. Jeff Halstead, a teacher at Ferris High School in Spokane, welcomed the new class. More

  • The robots are coming: WV and NMF
    Robot Two major robotics events are scheduled in Spokane area schools during the month of March.

    The first – A Washington FIRST® Robotics event March 6-7 at West Valley High School – will feature 29 regional teams, including schools from Oregon and Western Washington. Competitors will include Rosalia High School, creator of the robot shown here, entered in earlier competition. More 

    The second – the annual Lakeside Robotics Rumble – is scheduled March 14 in Nine Mile Falls. The free competition is open to middle school and high school students interested in matching their electrical and programming skills against other regional teams. More

  • Marsden Scholarships: $7,500 per year
    The George and Dorothy Marsden Scholarship -- one of the region's largest, private scholarship funds -- is now accepting applications. Awards of $7,500 each will be made to two college-bound high school seniors residing in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. The awards are renewable, potentially totaling $30,000 over four years. More
