Conference on disabilities
seeks youth participants

The Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment seeks students to participate in the 9th Annual Youth Leadership Forum for High School Students, August 10-15 at The Evergreen State College in Olympia.

Approximately 35-45 high school students with disabilities will be selected, through a competitive process, to attend the leadership forum. All participant expenses will be paid, including travel, lodging, food, and, as appropriate, interpreters for students who are deaf, assistive listening systems and personal care attendants for students with physical disabilities.

The program is designed to cultivate leadership, citizenship and social skills. Program topics will include vocational planning, advocacy, the history of disability as a culture and assistive technology for independence.

To be considered for the forum, students must complete a written application and provide two letters of recommendation. The application deadline is May 15. For additional information, contact Debbie Himes at (360) 438-3246 or dhimes@esd.wa.gov.
