School Nurse Corps

The School Nurse Corps (SNC) began in the 1999-2001 biennium as a statewide program funded by the Legislature to provide limited school nursing services in mostly rural school districts where there was little or no experience with school nursing services.

The SNC program provides school nurse services to school districts and their students through RN consultations, supervision and training of unlicensed school staff. The program also provides direct services so that students receive the nursing care they need by the appropriate staff in order to experience optimal health, remain safe and in school. In addition, SNC provides educational resources and professional development opportunities for school nurses across the region.

Mission
In partnership with schools, parents, and communities, improving health services and health outcomes for students so they are able to achieve academic success.

Objectives
The SNC provides RN staff development activities, education opportunities, and health program assistance that deliver the following student and staff benefits (not limited to):

Student health assessment and health problem identification.
Develop Emergency Care Plans (ECP) and Individual Health Plans (IHP) for
students with special health care needs.
Oral medication training and supervision.
Mandated health screening programs and immunization compliance.
Assist with student health concern referrals and follow-up.
Consultation to school staff on educational impact of health concerns.
Health education for staff and students.
